Our experience with onsite trainings shows that there is significant interest in online courses at different levels for computer-aided content analysis among journalists and analysts. In a step-by-step approach the application of Provalis-Software QDA Miner and WordStat will be trained in different modules.
QDA MINER & WORDSTAT WORKSHOP FOR (DATA) JOURNALISTS AND ANALYSTS.
NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OR SKILLS IN EMPIRICAL RESEARCH REQUIRED – HENCE OPENNESS TO USE OF COMPUTERS WILL BE HELPFUL.
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:
(1) approach analytic research based on a mixed-method understanding;
(2) master big amounts of textual data in reasonable time, e.g. tens or hundreds of interviews, reports, articles, online data bases;
(3) produce convincing visualisations, timelines and geographical patterns.
See for more details –> Overview-1st-Online Course
Each participant is asked to use his/her own laptop computer and tofamiliarise yourself with QDA Miner and Wordstat projects at www.provalisresearch.com – in particular the descriptions of functionality for the two software packages (QDA Miner: http://provalisresearch.com/products/qualitative-data-analysis-software/ , WordStat: http://provalisresearch.com/products/content-analysis-software/ ) and Applications and Studies under the Solutions menu.
If you download the trial version for QDA Miner and Wordstat (use PROSUITE which also contains Simstat) keep in mind that the trial version works for four weeks only without any limitation, i.e. with full functionality. In case you use the same computer for the workshop the date of the workshop should fall within these four weeks otherwise your version is not fully functional anymore during the workshop.
Registration for planned Training Modules:
Note: We are still in the phase to find out about the interest in qualitative/mixed-method trainings. Thus, this offer will be modified according to the final registrations. Depending on the number of interested people we will finally design the modules and decide about the final structure of the training, combining online and face-to-face training.
So please indicate your interest in the Modules and we will get back to you in due course.
1. Module: QDA Miner Basics
2. Module: Data Preparation, Smart Coding and Variables
3. Pattern/Network and Interactive Analysis
4. WordStat Basics
5. Using Taxonomies and descriptive as well as complex analysis
Finally, the workshops will give you the opportunity to work on your own data and get advice.
Please contact IJAF for Registration using the CONTACT FORM and indicate your interest in different Modules.
In light of the requests for training we will define the final structure of the training and let you know about the programme. The expenses for the training will – depending on the complexity of the final programme – range between 500 and 700 Euro.
